Glacier Kennel - Wiredhair Pointing Griffons and Borzoi

Welcome to Glacier Borzoi and Griffs!

New Litter!

Excited to announce Glacier’s newest litter! Proud parents are Ch Glacier Frontier Summer Fireworks, also known as Aurora. She was bred to a dog I love, a Prada-Shooter pup, Tanner, Gch ChuKar’s Well Dressed Sharpshooter, JH with too many titles to list! Aurora is a NAVHDA Prize 3, Dock Diving titled and one point from her Grand with limited showing. She will do whatever you ask. A lovely bitch with sound movement and temperament. Pups are in Minnesota. Both these dogs have great temperament and hunt drive. Any serious inquiries please PM me. Terri Korthals, Karen Spiess, Sarah Peterson

Hunting Style
The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is an all-around gun dog that is able to hunt many types of game from rabbits to quail. It is a deliberate hunter that will track, point, and retrieve on land and water and stay within easy range of the hunter. Their thick, heavy coat is well suited to hunting in very cold temperatures and they tend to prefer cooler hunting climates.

General Appearance
The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is a medium sized breed with a thick, wiry coat that is very distinctive. Color should be silver or steel gray with brown or chestnut. Tails are generally docked to roughly 2/3 of full length.

Height usually ranges from 20 to 24 inches from the ground to the highest point of the shoulders, and weight usually ranges between 40 and 60 pounds.

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is affectionate and loyal to the immediate family but can be standoffish with strangers. They make very good watchdogs. They must be socialized early and kept very active in a home setting to avoid restless behavior. Their coat will shed very little but is usually hand stripped to remove old dead hair and encourage new hair growth.

Tess and Lucy"All of my 6 Griffs to date have been great hunters and family pets but I've neither had nor seen any Griffs better than my current 2 from your Glacier Kennels. Tess and Lucy (aka: "The Girls") have great temperaments and are very biddable, easy to train, easy to handle in the field and on leads in crowds. Both are energetic, tough, and durable during all day hunts and have excellent noses."

Mickey"Mickey, our Glacier Griff, is formerly known as GCH CH Glacier’s Midnight Cowboy JH, is the most amazing, instinctive hunting dog we have ever owned. He has surpassed every expectation we had. He has also given us an opportunity to get involved in dog conformation shows, where we have met a lot of really nice and interesting people."

About Glacier Kennels

We make our home 26 miles from Glacier National Park in beautiful Whitefish, Montana.

Olney, Montana

A beautiful Montana morning at our home.

Our best friends live on 3 acres, and have beautiful outside kennels, woods to play in and a large yard to romp in. They do, however, prefer to spend the evenings in the house (it is THEIR house, of course. They are very nice to let us live here too!).

Deer in our Yard

We enjoy the deer that visit often as well.

We compete in conformation, as well as lure coursing with our Borzoi, and hunt tests for our Griffs.

We pride ourselves in providing the best environment for our own dogs, and our guests as well (see Three Dog Ranch)!

Our goal is to breed Borzoi and Griffs that can compete equally in the show ring and the field. Our breeding priorities include temperament, prey drive, conformation and biddability.

Thank you for visiting our site. Come back often!
